I’ve had a Spotify Premium for a couple of months, and back then i’ve also enabled “high quality streaming” in my settings.
After downgrading back to a free account, i kept getting an error message “Can’t play current track?” and the problem is you don’t really know what the problem is. In my case, this helped:

Edit -> Preferences -> untick “high quality streaming”

Done!
