History: Same same, but different. – My personal file manager history
I’m still happily using the split-view type of file managers very much. Both in GUI as well as in command line, spread on all kinds of systems from MS-DOS, Linux, Windows and Mac OS X … Here’s a small excourse of what i have been using over all those years since 1989 …
~1989 – ~2000: Norton Commander (MS-DOS 3.x – 6.x, also ran inside a dosbox on OS/2 Warp 3/4)
~2001 – 2016: Total Commander
formerly known as Windows Commander (Windows 95 … Windows 10, also in Wine on GNU/Linux)
(The screenshot also shows the native “Files” manager from Elementary OS “Freya”, the blue window is Total Commander)
2014 – 2015:
ForkLift for Mac OS X
2015:
FAR Manager (Windows Command Line, i like it but don’t use it regularly)
2000 – 2016:
Midnight Commander (different kinds of GNU/Linux, OS X …)
GNU/Linux Elementary OS “Freya”: add trash icon and/or folders to plank dock Spotify: How to fix error “Can’t play current track?”
